Will the Master of Rosewell, Trainer Dermot Weld dominate again at the Galway Festival for a 28th time?
There are very few true Dead Certs in the world of horse-racing, but it would appear that trainer Dermot Weld’s domination of the Galway Festival is one of them. The Curragh based trainer has positively farmed the meeting over his illustrious career, having taken the leading handler’s prize on no less than 27 occasions.
Last year was no different with Weld finishing the week on top with 11 winnners. However, the talented trainer Tony Martin was just on his heals with 9 victories. The rumours are that it may be close again this year with both Martin and Champion trainer Aidan O’Brien having strong teams heading to Ballybrit.
Weld tends to perform best at the being of the week with each of his runners worthy of consideration on the first couple of days. On the first evening the master trainer runs:
Manhattan Swing (5.10)
Grecian Tiger and Pay Day Kitten (6.45)
Bobby’s Heart (7.15)
Call Vinnie (8.15)
Each runner holds strong claims, with Postulation being particularly fancied. Punters should not be surprised if he were to land at least four of the prizes on the first day on the way to taking a 28th Galway title.
