Ted Veale looks poised to provide trainer Tony Martin with success in the Ebor at York this afternoon

In what has been an excellent last few months for the trainer, Ted Veale looks to be poised to add the calendars richest handicap The Betfred Ebor to his seasons haul. Ted Veale squeezed into the race after winning two races in Ireland including one this week at Bellewstown. The County Hurdle winner will love the softening conditions at York and comes to race with a feather weight. Opposition to Martin’s horse will come from Lady Cecil’s Tiger Cliff who looked unlucky at Royal Ascot and Simcock’s consistent Sheikhzayedroad. In what is a competitive renewal of the festival feature, Martin’s horse may prove to have too much for his rivals.

The Coventry first and second, War Command and Parbold will look to atone for their two disappointing thirds last time out when they race this afternoon. War Command looks to have the Group Two Futurity Stakes (Curragh 4.20) at his mercy with Parbold having outstanding claims in the Gimcrack at York (3.15).

Roger Charlton’s Thistlebird will spearhead the yard’s team on what could be a very profitable day for the connections. Second in the Nassau at Glorious Goodwood the mare could go one better when she returns to the course in the Celebration Mile (3.30).

Crockford’s Dead Cert – Parbold (York 3.15)

Connections have always thought a lot of this colt. He started slowly at Goodwood on his last appearance but finished strongly to take an eye-catching third. In what looks a weak Gimcrack he will have the class to beat his rivals.

Crockford’s Whisper – Ted Veale e/w (York 3.50)

Martin is a master tactician and has been in fine form this year. Ted Veale has just made the cut for the big race and with the ground coming his favour expect another bold show from an Irish raider in this historic race.

Archer selects War Spirit

Archer’s Selection – War Spirit (Newmarket 2.10)

Archer would not have failed to notice how much this horse has been touted by connections. In his first outing he was eased once beaten. In the same race last year at Glorious Goodwood Wentworth fared similarly and went on to do well subsequently. There is no doubt that the master would have taken this ride.
