Will the Racing Post Trophy be held Aloft again by Irish Champion trainer Aidan O’Brien? Crockford thinks so.

With previous winners in the last Group One race of the season such as St Nicholas Abbey and Kingsbarns, O’Brien has an excellent record in the Racing Post Trophy. In this renewal the trainer will be represented by the fancied Jacobean and the Newmarket winner AloftAloft may be the outsider of the Ballydoyle pair but he should not be written off by punters as he looks to be progressing with each run. The Racing Post Trophy will be only Jacobean’s second outing and may be a big ask for the highly regarded colt. The progressive Elm Park will also have his admirers but may just find the irish challengers too much for him.

With the National Hunt season getting to full swing at Aintree, Chepstow and Stratford expect Emma Lavelle to do well as she always does in the late autumn.

CROCKFORD’S DEAD CERT – TIMESREMEMBERED (AINTREE 4.50)

Highly tested last season over hurdles expect him to shape even better over the larger obstacles. This is the time of year when the stable usually starts to fire and the horse looks a great recruit to fences. Emma Lavelle is three from seven already this week.

CROCKFORD’S WHISPER – DUNGANNON E/W (DONCASTER 3.15)

Both the horse and the stable are bang in form, and with Oisin Murphy booked expect another bold show from this recent Ascot winner. The odds on offer are certainly worth a closer look.

ARCHER’S SELECTION – REGAL ENCORE (CHEPSTOW 4.10)

Archer would have picked up on the chatter surrounding this horse and would have been eager to take the ride. Well touted last season he should deliver in this valuable handicap hurdle.
