In what looks to be an open renewal of the QIPCO 2000 Guineas everything points to unbeaten O’Brien pair
Trainer Aidan O’Brien has become a master of producing a winner of the Guineas first time out and he looks set to do so again with either Gleneagles or the unexposed Ol’ Man River. Last season Gleneagles rattled up an impressive run of wins that included a disqualification in a hot contest in France. With Ryan Moore in the saddle the prices of around 4/1 available look very attractive, but he may have the most to worry about from his stablemate – Ol’ Man River.
Ol’ Man River was a striking winner last time out galloping away from his rivals and in what would seem to be Derby contention. The colt may just have enough improvement again to be contender in the first Classic of the season. Joseph O’Brien takes the ride and the price of 8/1 is worth consideration at least each way.
However, this is by no means a two horse race, with the likes of Ivawood certain to improve on his last effort and Sir Mark Prescott having a real chance with Celestial Path, who will love the firm conditions.
It is noteworthy that the connections of the Newbury winner Intilaaq are confident enough to supplement their mount at the tune of £30,000 to take his place in the race. He beat the well-regarded Gosden horse Keeble when breaking his maiden.
