Jim Bolger’s Dawn Approach will take on the cream of the European milers in the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville this afternoon
Having finished second to Toronado in the Duel on the Downs, Dawn Approach will now take on the cream of the European milers at Deauville this afternoon. Jim Bolger’s tough colt will face the top French three-year-old Intello and the super-mare Moonlight Cloud in the Group One contest. Dawn Approach will prove that he is hardy enough to bounce back from defeat at Goodwood in what looks to be the hottest mile race so far this year.
Intello has done nothing wrong all season and has the opportunity to stake his claim to be the best horse in his classic generation. The mare Moonlight Cloud was super impressive in her easy victory against Lethal Force last weekend and will not fear the additional distance today. At double figure odds both the Deauville specialist Elusive Kate and O’Brien’s Queen Anne winner Declaration Of War are not without each way chances. Detorri takes the ride on Olympic Glory whose odds of around 20/1 look too big given his form last season.
Many argued that Dawn Approach would not recover after his disaster in the Derby, but he proved his doubters wrong in the St James’s Palace. Bolger’s horse can do so again by winning the Prix Jacques Le Marois.
