Trainer Kevin Ryan’s Dante winner The Grey Gatsby set to shine in the Prix Du Jockey Club
The Dante winner put a number of reputations to the sword when taking the recognised Derby trial last month, but rather than being Epsom bound trainer Ryan has chosen to take on the French in the Prix Du Jockey Club. The Grey Gatsby’s combination of stamina and speed looks to be better suited by the shorter test that the race presents.
Ryan’s raider will have to beat the fancied Prince Gibraltar and French Guineas victor Karakontie if he is to be the first UK winner since 2005.
Prince Gibraltar was a very impressive winner at Saint-Cloud and is a worthy favourite on that performance. Karakontie just held off Prestige Vendome (another of today’s runners) in the French Guineas and once considered as a possible Derby prospect.
The Grey Gatsby will be joined by another British contender Ayrad. Ayrad trained in Newmarket by Roger Varian won last time out at Hamilton but looks to be outclassed in this quality field.
Kevin Ryan’s gutsy grey looks set to shine with Ryan Moore booked and should frank the form of the Dante in doing so.
