Trainer Aidan O’Brien is set to dominate the inaugural Irish Champions Weekend with multiple Group One chances

The Champion trainer is set to dominate the inaugural Irish Champions Weekend with the likes of Australia. The Ballydoyle handler has a host of excellent chances on the first day of the weekend that starts at Leopardstown and moves on to the Curragh tomorrow.

In today’s feature, the Irish Champion Stakes (6.50) Australia looks to be a cut above the rest and will start a short odds-on favourite for another victory. A rejuvenated Al Kazeem and the French Derby winner The Grey Gatsby will hope to stop him in his tracks but that seems unlikely given O’Briens confidence that there is still more to come from his double Derby winning colt.

Earlier on the card in the Group One Matron Stakes (5.45) O’Brien is represented by the York winner Tapestry who will face Rizeena from Clive Brittain’s yard. If the rumours are right Rizeena should send her trainer dancing into the winners enclosure.

With a host of other chances including Darwin, John F Kennedy and Blue Hussar O’Brien is certain to have  a good trip to Leopardstown.

Tomorrow, Chicquita, Found, Gleneagles and Leading Light all have strong claims at the Curragh for the Champion trainer.
