With two Grade One novice contests on the card at Fairyhouse expect Mullins’ future stars to shine

The Grade One Royal Bond Novice Hurdle (1.00) will see to Mullins potential super-stars clash in the two mile contest. The French import Allez Colombieres is highly regarded by connections but will have to be very special if he is going to beat the classy former flat performer Nichols Canyon. The way in which Nichols Canyon took his first hurdle suggests he has a glittering career ahead of him.

In a competitive Drinmore Novice Chase (2.05), Mullins sends a team of three to challenge for the Grade One prize. Valseur Lido was impressive when taking the beginners chase at Punchestown and looks to be the leading light for Mullins being partnered by Walsh. Perfect Gentleman and Alelchi Inois have both shown their ability over fences but may only play supporting roles. In the big field for the novice chase many people’s fancy will be the useful The Tullow Tank.

In the first race the big talking horse for Mullins and Walsh is the juvenile Kalkir, if he even is half as good as claimed he should win on the bridle. In the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, Ruby Walsh will partner Mullins’ favourite  Zaidpour with the imperious Annie Power missing.
