The Ante Post 2000 Guineas favourite Kingman looks set to rule in the Group Three Solario Stakes at Sandown this afternoon
8/1 with many firms to take the first Classic of 2014 the John Gosden colt will be a hot favourite for victory this afternoon. Hyped for Classic success from the moment he took his Newmarket maiden in eye-catching style he will face a stiffer test against his rivals in the Solario Stakes (2.40). Both Godolphin runners Music Theory and Emirates Flyer have respectable form lines and will provide a marker by which to judge Kingman. Even though his trainer has called the talk around his horse “the theatre of the absurd”, the race will have a dominating affect on the 2000 Guineas market. An impressive win for Kingman will see his price shorten and the touting increase. Crockford expects that to be the case given the impressive speed shown on his debut at HQ.
In the Atalanta Stakes (3.15) the interesting unbeaten filly Zibelina will take on the impressive Sandown winner Integral. Sir Michael Stoute’s Integral was unlucky in running in the Nassau at Glorious Goodwood but may find that the Godolphin filly will have too much for her.
At Chester the Ebor fancy Sun Central will receive compensation in (3.30) for missing the York feature. The Beverley Bullet sees the veteran Borderlescott try to make it two wins in a row in the race but he will have to get the better of the useful York Glory and course winner Tangerine Trees.
Crockford’s Dead Cert – Sun Central (Chester 3.30)
A warm order with many for the Ebor, the ground conspired against connections that day and he had to miss the race. Compensation looks certain for trainer Haggas and his charge in this valuable listed handicap.
Crockford’s Whisper – Kian’s Delight e/w (Newton Abbot 3.55)
Peter Bowen and this horse have landed valuable summer prizes in the past and today Kian’s Delight looks well in for another bold show. Many of his principal rivals appear to have reasons for dissuading you from backing them and with the five-year-old having a strong record over the larger obstacles his chance stands out.
Archer’s Selection – Kingman (Sandown 2.40)
With the Classic potential he showed in his first run this horse would not have been missed by Archer. Archer would have been certain to have selected this ride.
