Aidan O’Brien’s Venus De Milo to beat a talented field of fillies in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh this afternoon
Venus De Milo has been an impressive winner of both her starts but will face her toughest test yet when she meets a field that includes the Epsom Oaks winner- Talent. The O’Brien filly looked green but very talented when she won her races at both Fairyhouse and at Naas. In the Oaks Trial last month she had a host of respected rivals behind her including her highly regarded stablemate Moth. Ralph Beckett’s Talent came with a rattling run under Richard Hughes to win at Epsom and poses a strong threat today to Venus De Milo. The double is a definite possibility and should not be overlooked.
The progressive Ribblesdale winner and second, Riposte and Just Pretending also hold respected chances. Riposte provided a poignant and emotional victory for Lady Cecil and the stable at Royal Ascot and could still prove to be on an upward curve.
In what is an excellent renewal of the Darley Irish Oaks, the impressive Venus De Milo still may have improvement enough to beat this quality group of fillies and spoil the potential Oaks double for Ralph Beckett and Talent.
