St Nicholas Abbey is an odds on favourite to win his third Group One Coronation Stakes at Epsom Downs this afternoon
An impressive winner in Dubai the O’Brien six year old comes to Epsom in top form. Only the 2011 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden stands between him and a third win in the race. However, the French trained stayer will have to be in the form of his life to stop it being no more than a Coronation procession for St Nicholas Abbey and Joseph O’Brien.
Richard Hughes is poised to have another successful day on the Downs following his inspired ride on Talent in the Oaks yesterday. Hughes teams up with Mundahesh in the first (1.35) for William Haggas. He looks certain to win the Woodcote Stakes (2.05) on the unbeaten two year old Thunder Strike for his father-in-law Richard Hannon and has strong claims with Duke Of Clarence for the same connections in (4.50). In the Investec Dash (3.15) Hughes partners Long Awaited who might find that others including the globe-trotting Humidor have more dash but should be discounted.
