Richard Hannon looks poised to win another valuable Wetherby’s Super Sprint at Newbury this afternoon.
Hannon goes to the race triple-handed with the useful Lilbourne Lass leading the charge as the 7/2 favourite. The stable are masters of this race and are sure to have their three entries ready for the £123,000 Sprint this afternoon. Lilbourne Lass was impressive at Bath and is highly regarded by the team. Stable jockey Richard Hughes has been booked for Biography with Jimmy Quinn taking the ride on the first string. Crockford also likes the chances on the unbeaten Bird Of Light who is quoted at around 20/1 with firms. Even though inexperienced, the horse is outstanding place value given her Bath win. Eve Johnson Houghton’s Alutiq who ran well at Royal Ascot and the useful Lexington Rose for Bryan Smart may be the only threats to Hannon’s domination of the contest.
Also at Newbury, the Hackwood Stakes (3.15) looks to be at the mercy of the international sprinting star Krypton Factor who will find it easy to crack this opposition.
Two excellent jumps cards at Cartmel and Market Rasen will give national hunt enthusiasts something to cheer. Local Hero will be a warm order to follow up on last year’s win in the valuable hurdle at (2.55) and the Summer Plate (3.30) has one of the strongest fields that has been seen competing on a summer card.
Crockford’s Dead Cert – Local Hero (Market Rasen 2.55)
Steve Golling’s horse has won twice at the course including in this race last year. His third last time out in the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock is good form and his price of around 10/1 with firms is massive. Back at a track he loves he is bound to put his best foot forward and be a hero to backers again.
Crockford’s Whisper – Bird Of Light e/w (Newbury 3.50)
Hannon may have a stronger chance of winning the race with the well fancied Lilbourne Lass, but this horse must not be overlooked for its strong place claims. The whisper is that the horse will come on again from her debut win at Bath.
Archer’s Selection – Tha’ir (Newmarket 5.20)
Archer would not have missed the smart form that this colt showed as a two year old or that he was once quoted for Classic success. Now in a handicap at HQ Archer would have fought for the booking.
