The New One look sets to reign in the Grade One Aintree Hurdle on the first day of the Grand National Festival

The New One will hope to get back to winning ways on the first day of the Grand National meeting after what many see as an unlucky run in the Champion Hurdle. Running on strongly at the finish at Cheltenham, Nigel Twiston-Davies’s stable star will not have face such esteemed rivals today. Both Grandouet and Rock On Ruby return to hurdles after disappointing runs last time out, but will have to be at their very best to get near to The New One.

Silviniaco Conti will take on the impressive Ryanair winner Dynaste in the Betfred Bowl. Paul Nicholls’s chaser was run out of the finish in the Gold Cup but is certain to shine in a race where the conditions will suit. Silviniaco Conti will be joined in the Betfred Bowl by First Lieutenant who will look to land the prize for Ireland.

Oscar Whisky’s connections will hope that he can put his first fence fall at the Festival behind him and show his ability at his favoured course. The unlucky Triumph fourth Calipto will try to reverse form with the Dessie Hughes trained Guitar Pete in the opener.

Mossey Joe fetched a big price at auction this season and is a worthy short price favourite for the Foxhunters, and the novice Arnaud is well placed to take the Red Rum Chase.

Crockford’s Dead Cert – Silviniaco Conti (Betfred Bowl 2.30)

The King George winner was run out of the finish of the Gold Cup last month but will have the stamina and ability to run the grey Dynaste out of the finish. The course, distance and ground will not present a problem to this class act.

Crockford’s Whisper – Carole’s Destrier e/w (5.25)

The Kempton Silver Plate winner has been thrown in at the weights and is certain to make a bold show. At around 10/1 the each way possibilities look really attractive for this whisper.
