Dermot Weld looks poised to capture highly competitive renewal of the Galway Plate with Majestic Concorde
The Galway Plate has always been a highly competitive affair but this year the race is full to the brim with strong contenders. So full that the probable favourite and chosen mount of AP McCoy Carlingford Lough will have to wait on withdrawal of another to make the field. Earlier in the week punters would have been wise to have listened to the words of the shrewd Master of Rosewell House who told followers that he believed his horse Majestic Concorde to have a real chance in the Galway Plate. Having been laid out for the race, the Dermot Weld chaser, has an outstanding chance on form and in the weights. Weld’s runner is sure to face strong opposition from Mullins’s highly regarded Terminal, Elliott’s Romanesco and Meade’s Muirhead, but given his dominance at Galway you would not want to bet against a win for the King of Ballybrit.
Tony Martin’s excellent meeting continued yesterday with Busted Tycoon winning the last on the card. Crockford spotted this winner and is certain of another for the stable today with Blackmail in the first race at (3.00). Blackmail has always been touted and this race looks at his mercy.
Weld may pull away from Martin in terms of winners today to put a comfortable gap between them at the top of the leading trainers table for the Festival. The trainer looks certain to be victorious with Lucky Kitten (6.40) and Jayed Jidan (7.10).
