Follow Crockford on course at Hereford tomorrow for what may be it’s final fixture after 241 years of racing history
The course may be entering its final furlong tomorrow after first hosting racing in 1771. The owners in a shock announcement earlier this year confirmed that there would be no fixtures at the course in 2014 and potentially never again if agreement could not be reached with regards to the lease for the course and the associated security for investment.
There is a small possibility that abandoned fixtures may be diverted to the course from elsewhere next year and that the long term future of the course may be saved through a consortium taking control or a new lease being agreed.
Hereford will be the first UK course to be closed in over 30 years.
