Trainer George Margarson’s Excellent Guest to win final mega Scoop Six race on today’s cards and claim a second Victoria Cup

Punters across the country will have their fingers crossed this afternoon hoping to claim the massive likely £7.5m  Scoop Six prize. The final leg being the competitive Victoria Cup at Ascot, many gamblers may be scratching their heads looking for the winner – but they need look no further than last year’s victor Excellent Guest.

George Margarson’s horse always saves his best for Ascot and has been weighted to go well again this afternoon. In his way will be the useful Don’t Bother Me , who was highly regarded last season and had eye-catching debut for Marco Botti at Newmarket.

Botti earlier in the Ascot card runs the ex-Australian Kellini who will look to convert his excellent down-under form when running for the first time for the Newmarket handler.

In a good mixed card at Haydock, the mares L’Unique and As I am can dominate their male rivals. L’Unique is head and shoulders above her field and the master trainer Don Cantillon’s As I am had plenty left in the tank last time out when winning at Cheltenham.

The Oaks and Derby Trials at Lingfield are likely to provide strong clues for the Epsom classics. Derby hopeful Mekong River only disappointed  once last season and will continue his trainer’s excellent record in the classic trial.

Crockford’s Dead Cert – Excellent Guest (Ascot 3.50)

Tom Queally and Excellent Guest were good winners of the Victoria Cup last year on seasonal debut, and are set to win again today. Priced at 25/1 twelve months ago (when tipped by Crockford) expect another big odds win at around 18/1. The horse saves his best for the course and loves big handicaps.

Crockford’s Whisper – As I Am  e/w (Haydock 3.30)

Great wins at Newbury and Cheltenham in valuable contests this year, expect master trainer Don Cantillon’s faithful mare to be ready for another bold show. Her presence in this field is a strong indication in itself of her chances; the trainer is a shrewd placer of his horses. Conor Shoemark’s claim will assist alongside his excellent partnership with the mare.

Archer’s Selection – Winning Express (Lingfield 4.00)

This filly would have been certain to have attracted the Tin Man’s attention. Archer would have weighed up her form as the main chance in the race.

Crockford’s Gambles on Saturday 10 May:
