The Europeans are set to declare war once more on their US rivals on day two of the Breeders Cup 2013 with Aidan O’Brien’s Declaration Of War in the Breeders Cup Classic
With the Europeans taking three of the races on the first day of Breeders Cup 2013 they will have high hopes to follow up again with more victories on day two. The veteran Mike Smith rode London Bridge and Outstrip to victory last night with Richard Hughes making it a British treble on Chriselliam in the Breeders Cup Fillies Juvenile Turf.
Aidan O’Brien’s Declaration Of War looks the best chance of a European win in the meeting’s feature – The Breeders Cup Classic. According to connections the talented four-year-old will relish the conditions as showed when he won fast ground this at York this summer. But his US enemies will prove to be stiff opposition. Game on Dude comes to the race in top form and will be partnered by the brilliant Smith. Last year’s winner Fort Larned and the Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice must not be underestimated too and have the clear advantage of dirt experience. The British globe-trotting outsider Planteur must not be overlooked.
The Fugue and Dank will hope to fly the flag for Europe in the Breeders Cup Turf and the Breeders Cup Fillies & Mare Turf. The Fugue clearly acts on the top of the ground and was unlucky in running last year. If she can handle the turns and get into position with Hughes aboard she stands an excellent chance. Dank is in the form of her life and should see off her American rivals.
In the Mile, Hannon and Hughes will hope that Olympic Glory can reproduce the turn of foot that he showed in the QEII. However, even that top form may not be enough to deal a decisive blow to Wise Dan who looks to have the contest at his mercy. O’Brien’s runner Cristoforo Columbo has each way claims too.
The rest of the card will be taken by the home team.
