On the first day of the 2013 QIPCO Champion Series, Qatar Racing look well placed for a good afteroon with Pearl Secret and Robot Boy at Newmarket
The Palace House Stakes provides an excellent supporting feature on 2000 Guineas day at Newmarket. Qatar Racing Ltd are well represented with Pearl Secret, Spirit Quartz and Fire Eyes. David Barron and the connections of Pearl Secret have high hopes for their four year-old this season with the Group Three prize this afternoon in his sights. In his way will be the quality sprinter Spirit Quartz who will look to build on his recent win. Other claims could be made for Sole Power returns from his good run in Dubai and for Mick Channon’s three year-old Bungle Inthejungle.
Frankel’s brother Noble Mission will take on a group of three in the Jockey Club Stakes which will include Universal who beat him at Newbury. The form should be reversed this afternoon with Cecil’s colt winning the Group Two contest.
At Thirsk the Hunt Cup looks to be at the mercy of new trainer Olly Stevens horse Jacob Cats. Whilst over in the USA Ryan Moore has chosen to miss the 2000 Guineas to ride Lines of Battle for Aidan O’Brien in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
Crockford’s Dead Cert – Pearl Secret (Newmarket 2.35)
Highly regarded by connections with a string of good performances last season this Dead Cert will have improved again from three to four. Expect this horse to be setting the standard in the group sprint contests this season and winning the valuable Palace House Stakes this afternoon.
Crockford’s Whisper – Mars e/w (2000 Guineas – Newmarket 3.50)
This horse could be anything and at prices of around 16/1 he provides excellent each way value in the first classic of the season. This whisper is an old and strong one backed up by his impressive course gallop a few weeks back at the Curragh.
Archer’s Selection – Noble Mission (Newmarket 3.10)
Archer would have reckoned that he needed his run at Newbury on his seasonal debut. With that now behind him, Archer would have been keen to have partnered him in this valuable prize.
