With the Lincoln and the first Saturday of the flat being abandoned due to the weather. Crockford’s has turned his attentions to the only remaining fixture at Southwell for his Dead Cert and Whisper.
Scenes as the Brocklesby kicked off the flat season at Doncaster yesterday more resembled those of a mid winter jumps fixture. The snow, rain and heavy ground have put pay to the Lincoln card and racing elsewhere around the UK and Ireland. However, one meeting remains – Southwell.
The impressive claimer Racheal Kneller (claiming five) rides two for Phil McEntee, with her stronger chance being in the last with Putin. Kneller’s ability is clear and many consider her wins on Idol Deputy to be some of the best this Winter.
Crockford’s Dead Cert – Putin (Southwell 4.50)
This course and distance winner has run well over the Winter on the all weather and is well treated today. The introduction of headgear, a step back up in trip with the talented pilot claiming five the Winners Enclosure looks to be a certainty.
Crockford’s Whisper – Docofthebay e/w (Southwell 3.10)
Ran creditably last time out in listed company and drops down in grade today. This course winner may slip under many punters radar. He is only 4lb higher than last winning and Crockford believes that he is a Dead Cert to be in the frame this afternoon.
Crockford’s gambles at Southwell:
Edwyn Ralph (1.25)
Bubbly Braveheart e/w (2.00)
Flow Chart (2.35)
Docofthebay e/w (3.10)
Bispham Green (4.20)
