Cheltenham Open Meeting looks set for a Standing Ovation with a fine first day card
David Pipe is set to take the opener of the Cheltenham Open Meeting with his talented chaser Standing Ovation on what is a quality packed card at Prestbury Park. Standing Ovation could not have been an easier winner at the weekend and should add a fifth win on the bounce to his tally.
Owner Dai Walters will be hoping for a double with his superstar Oscar Whisky attempting the bigger obstacles for the first time and the promising Top Gamble making his seasonal debut in the (2.40). However, both will face stiff competition from the facile winners Taquin De Seuil and Warden Hill respectively.
Diamond Harry will try to gain his form of old in his new venture over the cross county obstacles of the Glenfarcas Chase. The Hennessy winner will have to bring his a-game if he is to beat a seasoned field of performers that includes the in-form Balthazar King and classy Chicago Grey.
Ruby Walsh and Quick Jack are an eye-catching partnership in the last. Tony Martin must always be feared when he ventures over to Cheltenham.
CROCKFORD’S DEAD CERT – STANDING OVATION (1.05)
Pipe’s progressive chaser readily took the Badger Ales Chase with some ease and appears to be on a continual upgrade. The field in the opener of the Open Meeting looks nowhere as competitive as Saturday’s contest. With Clements booked expect a fifth victory in the row for this Dead Cert.
CROCKFORD’S WHISPER – GUS MACRAE E/W (1.35)
Impressive this time last season and now back to a very workable mark expect a big run from Rebecca Curtis’s chaser especially with the ultra-talented Corbett on board. The whisper is strong about this outsider.
Crockford’s Gambles on the first day of the Cheltenham Open Meeting:
Taquin De Sueil (2.05)
Top Gamble and Warden Hill e/w (2.40)
Diamond Harry e/w (Glenfarcas Cross Country 3.15)
Quick Jack (3.50)
