Chelmsford City races towards a new opening with all weather racing starting tomorrow at the Essex track
The first of fifty-eight fixtures for 2015 will take place tomorrow at the newly re-opened Essex track. With the course’s management only given the final go ahead for racing on Monday, fingers will be crossed that everything goes well with the initial fixture. Tomorrow’s attendance will be in the hundreds and is by invitation to help test the new facilities, before a public opening next month.
Six years on from the closure of the former Great Leighs course in January 2009, connections will hope that new facilities help sustain racing in Essex this time round. With all weather racing seeing real investment in the last twelve months and the venue’s proximity to Newmarket’s training hub things do look brighter.
The first race at (12.50) tomorrow will be sponsored by Betfred, whose owner Fred Done has been fundamental to the course’s relaunch as Chelmsford City. Their continued support should help make it a successful venture.
