Crockford catches up with Nashville’s Templeton Thompson on her soon to be hit “Bring It On Home Chrome” dedicated to Triple Crown hopeful California Chrome

With the Kentucky Derby and Preakness under his belt the connections of California Chrome are dreaming of the first US Triple Crown since 1978, but someone else will be cheering him to “Bring It On Home Chrome” too.

Nashville stars Templeton Thompson and Sam Gay have put together an anthem worthy of the equine rock-star.  When asked what inspired her to record “Bring It On Home Chrome”, Thompson commented:

“ I feel honoured to have written it, it’s those songs that won’t leave me alone that I know I’m supposed to write … he  (California Chrome) really seems to enjoy what he does. Everyone involved seems happy, humble and grateful, a great horse and great people, awesome underdogs”

Many horses have failed to win the final leg nicknamed – The Test of the Champion, but the singer has no fears for her hero; “I believe it to my soul. He’s got this”.

The underdog story of the connections and the big red horse has captured the nation’s imagination and so will hopefully the song, which will help, raise money for the Old Friends Equine; a charity for retired thoroughbreds.

With US Racing having a long tradition of music for the post parade, perhaps this year, “New York, New York” will be replaced at Belmont by this track.

The Nashville star will not be among the collected hopefuls cheering California Chrome on at Belmont on Saturday, but she plans:

To make sure there’s a TV on so we can be watching and I’m planning to sing the song as he’s runnin’ and winning the Belmont & the Triple Crown!! Hopefully, we can sing it for him in person as a big congratulations to him for his Triple Crown victory and for the fantabulous horse he is and for the super folks his people are!!”

The song is not Templeton’s first with an equine theme and follows her successful album –  “Girls & Horses”.

The couple also recorded music for the renowned racing documentary by filmmaker Allison Pareis – “Sculpting the Wind”, which focused on the commissioning of a statue to commemorate the brilliant Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro.

Thompson has had a long association with horses having ridden out for a racing yard during her college days at University of Virginia. She is the proud owner of her beloved Jane and Beau, and it would be fair to say that music and horses are her truly combined passions.
