Cue Card looks set to perform at his best again in the Betfair Chase at Haydock this afternoon
With the same preparation as twelve months ago, Colin Tizzard’s stable-star looks set to claim a second Betfair Chase. Fourth in the Haldon Cup at Exeter behind God’s Own he is certain to come on from that run. In his way of victory is a host of Gold Cup hopefuls including the horse that beat him into second in the 2013 King George, Silviniaco Conti. The Nicholls chaser disappointed on his seasonal debut but is likely to bounce back to form. Taquin De Seuil and Dynaste also hold strong chances, but if the front-running chaser gels well with Daryl Jacob expect a repeat success.
Punters would be wise to follow Evan Williams and Venetia William’s runners this afternoon. The Welsh trainer’s horses are said to be in great form, whilst the prevailing conditions tend to favour Venetia Williams’ team.
CROCKFORD’S DEAD CERT – ON TOUR (HAYDOCK 1.15)
A facile winner last time out at Stratford. With the stable flying the hurdler will follow up in this improved company. Showed good form in bumpers last season.
CROCKFORD’S WHISPER – BALLYGLASHEEN E/W (ASCOT 2.40)
Winner of the Swinton Hurdle and last season’s Triumph Hurdle Trial, connections believe that there is more to come from this talented hurdler. With the yard in such form expect a bold show from this horse at a massive price.
ARCHER’S SELECTION – CUE CARD (HAYDOCK 3.00)
Archer would have remembered his front-running win twelve months ago and would have been certain to take the ride. The same preparation as last year would also have encouraged the jockey.
