Amy Ryan will gold and silver when she rides Blaine and Bogart for her father Kevin Ryan in the Ayr Gold and Silver Cups

Once champion apprentice Ryan will look to add another accolade to her career by being the first woman to ride the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup when she takes the ride on Blaine this afternoon. Her father Kevin Ryan has done well in the sprint before and will send a strong team of chances to the West Scotland track. A group winner at two, Blaine has returned to form this season and was good winner at York last month. Amy Ryan believes that punters can write off his disappointing run at Goodwood as he was restless in the stalls, and should be the one to beat today. The main opposition to a Ryan win would appear to come from the Irish challenger Burn The Boats and Robert Cowell’s Duke Of Firenze.

The Silver Cup earlier on the card is also at the female jockey’s mercy. Amy partners Bogart, who could be said to owe her a favour  after the incident last season at York. Finishing second last time out behind the imperious Muthmir at Doncaster his form looks strong.

Over at Newmarket, Phoibe (3.05) is an eye-catching entry for the German trainer Peter Schiergen.

CROCKFORD’S DEAD CERT – STRATH BURN (NEWBURY 2.20)

Ran well behind the useful Kool Kompany in France on his second start and now back at Newbury where he won his maiden he should be hard to beat. Clearly highly regarded as he holds a Group One Middle Park entry for later in the autumn.

CROCKFORD’S WHISPER – BOGART E/W (AYR 2.40)

Bogart put in an excellent run at Doncaster in the Portland Handicap last weekend. The sprinter according to connections likes this time of year and the whisper is that he will run well and repay his jockey Amy Ryan for the unseating at York last season with a bold show today.

ARCHER’S SELECTION – SKY HUNTER (AYR 3.15)

Archer would have noticed the form that this horse once showed when trained by Andre Fabre. Now cut Archer would have taken the chance up on this once classy sort.
