Million pound All Weather Championship card brings Good Friday racing for the first time in UK

The £1m card at Lingfield  and fixture at Musselburgh this afternoon will see racing take for the first time on a Good Friday in British history. Many have welcomed the move with there being hopes that this will establish a fixture for years to come marking the climax to the All Weather season.

This winter has seen an increase in the quality of all weather racing and  the prize money available; but perhaps not to the level hoped as many of the runners are year-in year-outs all weather stalwarts. Given the prize money on offer it is surprising that not more connections would have been tempted.

One exception may well be Ertijaal who could prove to be a very classy individual this season and rightly holds quotes for the 2000 Guineas. William Haggas will hope for a big run from his potential star in what is a very valuable three-year-old contest.

Crockford’s Dead Cert – Ertijaal (Lingfield 2.55)

This three-year-old ran the classy Craven winner Toormore to quarter of a length on his debut and followed up with a victory at Yarmouth and win at Lingfield last time out. Fitter from that run Ertijaal will have no problem beating his rivals today before a possible tilt at the  2000 Guineas.

Crockford’s Whisper – Sirius Prospect e/w (Lingfield 4.40)

Dean Ivory’s horse won well over a mile at Kempton back in November and should adapt to this course too. At each way prices expect a bold show from this versatile sort.

Archer’s Selection – Grandeur (Lingfield 5.20)

Archer would forgive the grey his last run, knowing that he has the ability and quality to win this valuable prize. Archer would be up and certain of winning the Easter Classic.

Crockford’s All Weather Championship Gambles:

Lingfield – Grendisar (1.45), Interception (2.20), Ertijaal (2.55), Litigant (3.30), Tarooq e/w (4.05), Sirius Prospect e/w (4.40),  Grandeur and Aussie Reigns e/w (5.20)
